Larne Cricket Club celebrated its end of season dinner and awards at the Curran Court Hotel on October 30 - photos of the evening are available under the Photos menu. The prize winners for the 2009 season are as follows :- 1st XI Player of the Year - Gareth Alexander Gareth led the way with the bat and was the leagues top run scorer. He scored 539 runs at an average of 38.5 which included 2 half centuries and his 2nd century for the team. He also picked up 14 wickets including at hat-trick and was safe under the high ball all season. 1st XI Bowler of the Year - Jonathan King Jonathan was the leagues leading wicket taker collecting 40 victims this season. He regularly picked up early wickets and received an Ulster Bank Award for taking 7-21 against BISC. He was also a handy contributor down the order with the bat and helped the team to some vital victories. 2nd XI Player of the Year - Gary Moore A much under-rated batsman Gary moved up the order this year to provide some experience in a very young team. He showed consistency all year and scored 2 half centuries. 3rd XI Player of the Year - Michael Lyle The mainstay of the 3rd XI in a difficult year Michael performed as he always does with the ball and also helped to hold the batting together in some very difficult situations. Young Player of the Year - Chris Dempsey Chris played 16 games for the 1sts and scored his first half century for the team at the end of the season. He made several key contributions in tight games and also returned to form with the ball at the end of the year. He also scored a blistering 138 for the 2nds and was a key member of the U15 team which got to the semi final of the cup. U15 Player of the Year - Robert McKinley Robert was the star of the U15 team and also represented the Ulster Schools U15s, NCU U15s and Ireland U15s with distinction. He scored his maiden century for the 2nds and performed well with bat and ball for all teams in the club. Most Improved Player - Dean McDonagh Dean returned to the club with a bang in scoring 90 in his first innings for the 2nds. This was no fluke and he followed it up with many more runs over the course of the season. Fielder of the Year - Ian Hill Ian took some stunning slip catches at the beginning of the year, gave 100% effort every week and was a great encouragement to all his team mates. Pongo Trophy - Murad Murad could probably have won this trophy 3 times over for his catalogue of dropped catches at mid off - head up Gaw !!!! Club Man of the Year - Gareth Gaw Gareth has not missed a game in the last 3 seasons, always attends practise, did a great job as match secretary for the 1sts and will lead the team next season Sportsman of the Year - Gary Moore Gary did a great job as captain of a very young and inexperienced team in some difficult circumstances. He plays the game in the right spirit and is a good example to all the younger players Highest Score for 1st XI - Gareth Alexander The Thomas Crymble Award presented by his father Nigel after his late son goes to the highest score for the 1st team and was won for the 4th time by Gareth who scored 106 against Saintfield. All The Way Trophy - Chris Dempsey Presented by Tom Ramsay for the most entertaining innings of the year this goes to Chris for an innings of 138 against Cregagh which included no fewer than 10 sixes and almost left Tom hoarse. Finest Hour Award - Ian Hill There were many contenders this year but Ian wins the award for bowling figures of 7-16 against Drumaness which are the best in the clubs history. |
