It was a very busy weekend for Larne with the 5 fixtures producing very mixed results. It began with a fine win for the U15s over Academy in Friday night but saturday was a bad day as the 1sts and 2nds were both beaten by Donacloney while the 3rds went down to defeat against Laurelvale. The 3rds bounced back on Sunday with victory over Ards at Sandy Bay - match reports are available in the Match section.

It was a terrible weekend for Larne as all 3 senior teams went down to heavy defeats in the Ulster Bank leagues. Despite scoring only 87 against Templepatrick the 1st XI were almost able to defend it before losing by 3 wickets, while the 2nd XI lost by 8 wickets at home to Cliftonville, and the 3rds were bowled out for just 32 at Laurelvale. If the scores from all 3 matches were added together then you would just about have 1 good total so the batting will need to improve dramatically in the coming weeks.

There was good news this week for Robert McKinley when he was named in the Ireland U17 squad for this summers European Championships. The team play Jersey in Dublin on August 4th, 5th, and 6th, then take on Scotland in the North West on August 10th, 11th and 12th before travelling to Holland to play the final 3 matches on August 24th, 25th and 26th. Robert has successfully represented Ireland at U13 and U15 level and to be picked for the U17 this season is a great achievement as he will be eligible for the team again next season. The young fast bowler is currently starring for the 1st XI with both ball and bat and everyone at the club wishes him well in this tournament.
