The Lure Of The Spade Mill

I first noticed I was losing interest in cricket when the various local visitor attractions started becoming more enticing than the actual cricket.  It started with the Exporlis Aquarium, which seemed much more enticing way to spend a day than getting a hiding at Downpatrick. Next week it was the Irish linen Museum, which suddenly looks really interesting when you are on your way to play cricket at Lurgan. I knew I had a really bad case of the cricketing blues when Patterson’s Spade Mill seemed a worthy distraction from Muckamore. Things reached a new low last week when I seriously considered going shopping in Larne town centre with my really annoying family instead of fronting up for the game at Sandy Bay…

There is something highly sinister going on in international cricket.  Just as Ireland are officially confirmed the biggest minnow on the international scene we have the announcement that our best player is to play for England.  Congratulations seem to be in order for Eoin Morgan himself, but there are plenty of reasons to worry that his selection is not going to help anyone bar England.
